Storytelling has been around for over 40,000 years.  We love hearing them and quite frankly a good story teller is worth their weight in gold and I could listen all day.

So I was reading Neil Patel’s latest blog post and it was talking about this very subject. Almost always he provides an infographic to help us see easily and effortlessly the message being conveyed.

This time is no different..so I wanted to share the same, and then suggest heading back over to his blog

and reading it in its original format…Neil is brilliant.

So enjoy the graphic below and I am curious, do like hearing stories? Are you good at telling stories?  Please leave a comment below.

How to get rid of acne?

Met an interesting lady the other day. In her teens she had terrible acne.  Her mom tried all sorts of products and remedies with her.  All was at a loss.  Then one day she strolled into a Merle Norman store.  With their skin care products they came up with a solution.  She went on a regular regiment of cleaning her skin, using toner and moisturizer and with in a few weeks her acne was cleared for good.  That was 50 years ago.  Today she owns a Merle Norman studio in Palm Desert.  Enjoy her story!

What to do in Palm Springs

Tis the season and we all how out of town guest.  The question is always what to do.  There are plenty of free activities from going for hikes to checking out Mid-Century homes in Palm Springs.

One of my favorite activities is strolling El Paseo.  You can make a day of it.  El Paseo is a mile long shopping district, the Rodeo Drive of the Desert. There are jewelry stores, art galleries, apparel shops and a few dozen restaurants, cafes and bakeries. In the middle of it all you will find The Gardens full of luxury shops from Coach to Tiffany and Louis Vuitton.

Two of my favorite shops are The Upper Crust and Don Vincent Men’s Shop.  The Upper Crust is full of great stuff for the kitchen and dining table.  I love that many items are unique.  Don Vincent is a men’s shop with an European twist.

How can I balance my work and home life?

Seems like most of us are so busy we do not know if we are coming or going…especially during the holiday season.  Sometimes I wish I had a personal assistant.  Wouldn’t that be cool!  But did you know you can?

In a recent Forbes article about the 5 things you can do to have a better work life balance they mentioned outsourcing.  Think about it what can you outsource?  The one problem with outsourcing is you are still like a general contractor overseeing projects.  What if you could hire someone to do all that.

Executive Errands is just that.  Think about all you had to do last week. Executive Errands can simplify your life. From window washing to handy man work, from party planning to airport pickups they can do it all.

Certified Farmers Market- Business Video Review

Have you ever been to the Old Town La Quinta Certified Farmers Market?

What a fun way to spend a Sunday morning.  They have so much fresh local produce, fresh flowers, fresh baked breads, olive oils, cheese, honey, meat vendors, chef demonstrations and often live music.  It takes place right on Main Street.

I like to go there to just people watch.  Quite the small town charm.  I always see friends.  Best spot to hang out and people watch is at Old Town Coffee Company.  Although swinging by Nitro Infusions for a little ice cream and people watching is a close second. And it is tough anytime to stroll the streets of Main Street and not pop into Elizabeth and Prince,  Tarah Jade or The Olive Oil Company.

The farmers market is every Sunday during season from 8-12

When it is time to be pampered it is alway nice to relax in an intimate setting where it becomes all about you!  That is how I felt recently when getting my hair styled at Blown Away Hair Salon.  Blown Away is a quaint salon located in the heart of the Village of La Quinta. Carmen and Nancy are devoted to giving you the individualized attention you deserve.  It became all about me and I love that!

MyCityBusinessReview– Business Video Review of Cork and Fork

The Valley is full of wonderful restaurants.  At Cork and Fork chef and owner Andie Hubka takes your typical dishes and gives them a twist.

The menu is filled with familiar items from Grilled Cheese, to Tacos, to Mac and Cheese.  Andie has a knack for taking the ordinary and then turning it into something memorable.  She makes the grilled cheese grown up by adding braised short rib and sharp cheddar.  The mac and cheese is absolutely amazing and changes daily.  I had the tacos last night and they were incredible.  Filled with filet mignon, pickled red onion, and the most amazing garlic sriracha aioli sauch.  She has designed the dishes to “mix, match, mingle and enjoy”.

The wine selection is very affordable and they offer both wine by the glass as well as bottles to share.  Their list always features award winning varietals from around the world. They encourage you to experiment different wines with your dinner, so they have an enomatic wine machine offering tasting pours of different wines you might otherwise not have tried.

Andie got her start next door as the owner of the very successful Cooking with Class.  There she had an idea to have a one night a week supper club.  It was so successful that she had to turn people away.  Opening a restaurant seemed to be the natural thing to do.

Today Cork and Fork is packed nightly.  It is an intimate restaurant that seats about 50.  Recently they added outdoor dining on the patio.  They are located in La Quinta, at the corner of 48th and Washington at 47875 Caleo Bay, Suite A106.

The Fire Place Blog- Business Video Review

Wondering what to do with your outdated concrete fireplace you see in EVERY 90‘s tract home in the desert?  Well, I love to window shop on El Paseo to get ideas, although many shops are out of my price range. The other day I was looking around The Fire Place looking for ideas and absolutely fell in love with the shop. Now this seemed a little scary because I do not have that sort of expendable income.  But I was shocked how reasonable and affordable the prices were! This is not what I expected from a shop on El Paseo.

The Fire Place is like an art gallery. They custom make their fireplace screens and doors out of wrought iron. Their fire pits are spectacular…and works of art as well.  And all the different custom mantels would transform any room.  So many ways to totally change the look of a room or patio.  Now I have to choose which way to go. This is a beautiful store…take a peek inside.

Valley Wide Tool Repair – Palm Desert – Video Business Review

Stopped by Valley Wide Tool Repair today while signing up another business for MyCityBusinessReview.
What an incredible shop and owner, George Ramirez.
They repair anything from power tools to air compressors, nail guns, gas saws, generators…you name it.
While I was waiting one gentleman…a regular walked in. He had an employee who lost a tiny little hook and spring out of a piece of equipment
George went rummaging around in back of the shop and appears out of the back with exact hook and spring the gentleman was in need of…perfect fit…NO CHARGE!
A few minutes later another man walked in the shop just to say thank you. He was from Yucca and had called 2 weeks ago with an air compressor problem. George walked him through trouble shooting the issue and was able to helped him fix the problem over the phone. Wow! George’s customer service earns him customers for life and is why his business has been thriving for over 20 years.

Mamacita’s Mexican In Palm Desert- Video Business Review

Mamacitas- Business Video Review

Behind every good Mexican restaurant is great Chili Verde.

In fact the first dish I try when checking out a new Mexican restaurant is chili verde.  Dante the owner of Mamacitas perfected his chili verde before he ever opened up his restaurant.

He was the personal chef for Frank Sinatra for 25 years.  Frank loved Dante’s chili verde.  I think what stands out to me is the subtle heat that sneaks up on you.

Although it is full of pork the flavor of the chili is the real star…it has the perfect balance between tart, sweet, savory and spicy.

Although the chili verde accompanies many dishes at Mamacitas, I enjoy it straight up with a couple corn tortillas.  Mamacitas is a great little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant just off Cook near the wash.  We tend to go there for lunch and it is packed full of locals.

Their other signature dish is the mole which I will have to try some time too.  But Dante’s chili verde is a tough one to beat.

Video, Is It Right For My Business – Video Business Review

Video, Is It Right For My Business – Video Business Review

Video, is it right for your business?  This is such a great question I began to do some research and discovered some pretty amazing facts about when a video may be appropriate, or in some case critical when it comes to helping visitors to your website really get a full understanding and appreciation of your product or service.

Let’s begin with the idea that when you have a service type business that a video may not be helpful…oh contrare mona mie”

Imagine you have a window washing service and you have on video how you arrive in your service vehicle equipped with far more than water, bucket and a squeegee.  Your potential customers now have the chance to see you, the person who will be coming to their home or business (familiarity) and exactly what you do to make your window washing business superior to your competitors.

They get to watch step by step how you take  extra pride and care in cleaning the inside and out and when a water spotted window needs extra care from a rogue sprinkler that may have left you thinking “this window is ruined”, quickly and easily makes it shine like new again…

They also get to hear more about your business, like how many years you’ve been in business, the passion you express in your voice of why you do what you do…helping them realize this is more than just  a job!

Yes video can take the potential customer on a tour that will motivate them to pick up the phone and make the call for their appointment with you.

This can be done for any kind of service. From Pool Service to Air Conditioning, to Plumbing…you name it This can be the bridge to help the customer make a decision to select you out of all the others on the Google Search list.

How about if you sell widgets?

What if you had a product that on the surface was maybe complicated?  Use of video can take something complicated and make it much less daunting and unapproachable.

What if you sold say Roof Top Evaporative Coolers…(Hey putting a hole in your roof can certainly make a do it yourself-er a little nervous)  What if we came out and filmed the entire installation, from a to z, then edited it down to 1-3 minutes, showing how your expert technicians carefully measured exactly where to install this device on the roof, before cutting the hole.

And before cutting the hole in the ceiling they took extra care in protecting your furniture and valuables from dust and debris.  Then after it was all installed, how you walked them not only through the use, but also the ease of future care needed to insure the most efficient operation.

You also took the time to go over the cost savings, as well as the added value of having a more moist environment, making your skin less dry and your furnishing made of wood last longer.  And of course you also explain how you and your company have just begun the relationship with you, providing yearly inspections before the season begins to make sure the pumps and filters are ready to go…

You see, a video business review allows you to create a relationship that leads to sales, where a commercial is designed to sell services without the ability to share with the customer whose behind the name on the trucks and vans. Mainly due to the costs and time. A typical commercial being 30 seconds, while an online business video review is 1 to 3 minutes.

So what kind of businesses would benefit most from video?  All businesses, yes even real estate sales people, because each one of them are their own business and wouldn’t you want to know a little more about the agent coming to your home before they knocked on door for the first time.

The following is a video of a local business located in Old Town La Quinta, called The Wine Bar in Old Town.  It is owned by Robert and Joni Mott.  They opened a little less than a year ago and have done a great job building a loyal following.

They have wine tastings on Saturdays, Wine Clubs and live entertainment on the weekends.  Robert also produces a weekly video for his clients called Wine Notes. This allows him to send out informative information on a weekly basis that add value to his customers.  These videos contain only information and are not designed as a selling piece and are part of his overall marketing approach, called video content marketing.

What Key Elements Must Your Business Video Have-Video Business Review

Posted on: July 11, 2012
Comments are off for this post

What key elements must your business video have to be successful in terms of not only being watched, but shared with friends or others who would benefit from your service or products?

  • Take time to write down 3-5 things that make your business special to your clients.
  • In each of the areas, write a brief description of a couple of sentences to help you stay focused and on point.  Its easy to begin editorializing…
  • Why did you or how did this business begin? How did it get started?  People enjoy stories as it helps connect them to you, humanizing you and your product.  Imagine how many times you read a great biography on someone who is living and then the next time you see them on TV your depth of understanding is far different and emotionally attached…this is really key and should not be overlooked or downplayed as unimportant.
  • Remember this video you are placing on a website is NOT a commercial, it is your opportunity to tell a story, so when it comes to selling, make it soft.  Add your hours, and days of operation as a closing and invitation.
  • The length of your video is very important.  Videos under 3 minutes according to a report from YouTube shows 85% of the videos in this time frame are watched in their entirety.  So keep it in the 1-3 minute range.
  • Add variety to your video. I mean when your talking, the camera does not have to be on you 100% of the time.  By adding some additional editing and b-roll your video is much more engaging and entertaining.  It also allows you to give a visual tour of your store or business so when your new customers arrive for the first time, they already feel like they’ve been there.  Familiarity is a great thing to have on your side.
  • Last on the list (while there are more) is quality of production.  Video is an investment. Unlike an ad run in the local newspaper, the shelf life of a quality video can last a long long time.  Industry standards are between $1,000 and $4,000 per minute produced.  Meaning when you have a video created of 3 minutes it could be $3-12,000 dollars.   Other options do exist that will drive this investment down without sacrificing production quality.  So do not be discouraged…video is a must.

The following video is one that was created and edited by our company swingpointmedia for our business video review site, mycitybusinessreview.  It exceeded the expectations of the client and when we showed how they could not afford not to do video their decision to move forward was quite painless.

Making a video for your business is a decision that can help attract new customers 24/7 and 365 days a year.  The internet never sleeps.  And study shows that 90% of people coming onto the Internet are doing search…searching for the right services or product provider to invest their time and money. Are you putting yourself in the way of this oncoming traffic?
